Today we are going to talk about 5 tips to help increase your energy levels and the first one is sleep. Make sure you are getting enough sleep and good quality sleep. Ideally you want 7 to 9 hours a night and before you go to bed you want to try and do things that will relax you more than stimulate, for example you don’t want to be looking at your iPad or on your phone or watching too much TV and action movies which gets your mind really active and to do things which are more calming.
The next tip is breakfast.
First of all make sure you have one and make sure you have a good quality one, so ideally if you are used to having cereals with milk that is basically just a bowl of sugar so you want to try and swap that for something more like porridge with chia seeds and almond milk instead of cow’s milk or even better than that would be something like eggs or a protein type breakfast.
The third tip is booze and caffeine.
These are energy thieves and you want to try and get rid of them. If you are having loads of Red Bull you might get a big kick out of it but then you will still have a massive crash and also alcohol in the longer term doesn’t give you much energy – it will give you loads of calories but no good energy.
Intensity. This is relating to your workouts.
You don’t want to be spending hours and hours in the gym. One this is boring and you may have other things to do, and two, you can get a better effect and also increase your energy levels by doing a short sharp intense workout. If you are short on time you can do 15 seconds with an exercise, 5 seconds rest, then do the next one and repeat for 4 or 5 exercises in a little circuit and in 10 minutes you can have a brilliant workout and your energy will actually be increased.
If all this is ok you can look at taking some supplements. At this time of year when it is cold all the time and not much sun, one good supplement is Vitamin D which is called the sunshine vitamin. Basically if you don’t get enough nutrients from the sun when it is in short supply this vitamin can also help increase your energy level. Liquid Chlorophyll which is the green stuff we drink is another good one to be having as well as for a detox and cleanse as it gets more oxygen in your blood stream. A multi vitamin in general is a really good one to be having because you can’t get everything from the foods we eat. Solstice Energy is useful if you are doing a detox or avoiding caffeine and alcohol. I don’t drink coffee but I have people who drink coffee who haven’t missed their caffeine as the solstice energy really makes them feel good. I can post you links for these but they are all available here.
So these are my little tips for getting more energy. Make sure you get enough sleep, eat a decent breakfast, avoid booze and caffeine, do intense workouts and then you can look at taking some supplements if you have got everything right.
That’s all for this week, I’ll catch up with you next week.
